Dave’s training for the JFK 50 miler has been pretty intense. He has a coach and a plan–and as always, he was signed up to run the Philly Half Marathon in September.
Race day was ughishly warm (this seems to be a new pattern with this race), but Dave and my sister Elizabeth were ready to run. Dave ran ridiculously faster than he has in years, thanks to the new training he has been doing. The nutrition planning also got him through tough running conditions without ill effect.
Years ago Dave had an issue in a race that required a hospital trip, so I get pretty nervous about him running in hot weather. I actually had to help someone who collapsed in front of us in much the same way Dave did years ago…ugh. This is one reason I am grateful his first ultra is at the end of November.
Things have been a bit crazy since the race–I am woefully behind on sharing this and getting fundraising going for the 50 miler…in the weeks after the race Dave suffered a calf strain, and he has had to modify his training pretty significantly, but hopefully in the next week he can start truly running again (he now power walks like a beast).
Please keep him in your prayers as we are at 5 weeks until race day…and if you can support his race, please click on the link below. Thank you for supporting the G-fo Rce!
